This book follows a young boy named Moose Flanagan as his father begins working as a guard at Alcatraz prison in 1935. On the island, Moose befriends the warden's trouble-seeking daughter named Piper. She often has the inmates at Alcatraz do laundry for her friends at school and keeps the money that they pay her to do it. After getting caught, she and Moose have to find new ways to entertain themselves.
